What is the TradeCraft Collective?
The SCREWS TradeCraft Collective is a year-round workshop series at the intersection of art, sustainable practice, and hands-on learning. It’s a space where makers, menders, and creative tradespeople come together to share their craft—whether that’s embroidery, woodworking, PLarn weaving, beading, bottle cutting, or crochet. Our goal is to amplify the power of tools and trades as forces for creativity, connection, and community resilience.
Workshops are open to all, and we believe cost should never be a barrier to participation. Through our scholarship program, SCREWS offers free registration for those with limited income or other access challenges. We’re here to make space for everyone to connect with creation—one tool, one sustainable material, one shared experience at a time.
Craft as Rebellion
This isn’t a hobby club. It’s a movement. The Collective is founded on the belief that creative labor is revolutionary—especially when it challenges the waste of mass production. Our instructors don’t just share how to make things—they educate how to break the cycle of consumption by breathing new life into what’s already here. Every workshop is an act of defiance, and every participant gains the tools to reclaim.
Participant “Free Access” Opportunities
SCREWS believes that everyone deserves the chance to connect with creation — regardless of financial circumstances. Through our TradeCraft Collective “Free Access” Program, we offer reduced or waived workshop fees to ensure our events remain accessible to participants from all walks of life. Free Access Programs are available for youth and adults, with priority given to individuals facing financial hardship or underrepresented in hands-on creative spaces. Please apply here
Art + Trade + Purpose
We honor creative trades as cultural work—from jewelry and textile design to carpentry and repair. Our workshops draw from both fine arts and traditional trades, proving that beauty and function can coexist. SCREWS provides access to reclaimed and repurposed materials, challenging both instructors and participants to create with intention and sustainability in mind.
Fueling a Mission
Your workshop helps fund SCREWS Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit committed to sustainable hardware access, upcycling, and community education. Instructors keep 50% of class proceeds, while the remaining 50% powers our Tool Library and resource-sharing efforts.
Who Should Apply?
We’re looking for artists, craftspeople, and trades workers with a passion for creation and a commitment to reuse. If you can demonstrate a process, guide others through it, and speak to the value of sustainable making—we want you in the Collective.
