S.C.R.E.W.S. ,Inc Tool Library Rules

  1. Eligibility
    All tool library patrons must be 18 years or older to borrow tools from the S.C.R.E.W.S. Tool Library.
    Memberships are for individuals only. Corporations, businesses, or organizations are not eligible for membership at this time.
    Corporate plans may be considered in the future but are not currently offered.
  2. Authorized Use
    Only the library member who checked out the tools is authorized to use the items borrowed under their account.
  3. Return Location
    Borrowed items must be returned to the same location from which they were picked up.
  4. Late Fees
    A $1.00 late fee per day will be charged for each overdue item. The maximum amount owed will not exceed the replacement cost of the tool.
  5. Renewals
    Tools may be renewed for one additional loan period, provided no other member has reserved the tool.
  6. Condition of Tools
    All tools must be returned in the same condition as when borrowed, aside from normal wear and tear. Tools must be returned clean.
  7. Manufacturer Defects
    The S.C.R.E.W.S. Tool Library is not responsible for any manufacturer defects in borrowed tools.
  8. Tool Safety and Repair
    If a borrowed tool becomes unsafe or is in disrepair, the patron must immediately cease use and notify library staff upon returning the item.
  9. Responsibility for Loss or Damage
    Patrons agree to pay for the loss or damage of any library item and accept the library’s assessment of the item’s condition and the fair restitution for damage or loss. For information about the cost of an item, please email info@screws.charity with the item number.
  10. Right to Refuse Loan
    The library reserves the right to refuse the loan of any item at its discretion.
  11. Pliers, Scissors, Clippers, and Cutters: These tools, or any tool with pivoting handles, must be securely taped in the closed position with painter’s tape or locked closed at the time of pickup and return.
  12. Saws and Saw Blades: Saw blades must be returned with tubing or packaging protecting the saw teeth at both pickup and return locations.
  13. Gas-Powered Equipment: Additional lease agreements are required for borrowing gas-powered equipment.
  14. Tool Usage Restrictions
    Patrons agree not to use borrowed tools for any purpose other than their intended use, and only for projects that meet safety standards. Using tools for unlawful or dangerous activities is strictly prohibited.
  15. Tool Inspection Upon Return
    When returning a tool, the patron must inspect it to ensure that it is in proper working condition and free from any additional damage that may have occurred during use. If any new damage is identified, the patron is responsible for reporting it immediately.
  16. Health & Safety Compliance
    All patrons must adhere to the local safety regulations and best practices while using tools from the library. It is recommended that patrons wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, goggles, and ear protection, where necessary.
  17. Liability Waiver
    The patron agrees to release the S.C.R.E.W.S. Tool Library from any liability for personal injury, property damage, or loss that may occur while using any borrowed items. The library is not responsible for accidents, injuries, or damages resulting from the use of tools or equipment.
  18. Disposal of Tools
    If any tool is beyond repair or is no longer safe to use, the patron agrees to return it to the library immediately for proper disposal or repair, as determined by library staff.
  19. Termination of Membership
    The library reserves the right to suspend or terminate a member’s borrowing privileges if the member fails to comply with these policies or if they repeatedly damage or lose items.
  20. Emergency Contact
    In the event of an emergency or serious issue with a borrowed tool (e.g., malfunction or safety concerns), patrons must immediately call 911 and report the situation to the appropriate emergency services.
  21. Battery Powered Tools
    Battery powered Tools must be returned with batteries fully charged
